The Doha Round would have been the world`s largest trade agreement if the United States and the EU had agreed to reduce their agricultural subsidies. As a result of its failure, China has gained ground on the world`s economic front through cost-effective bilateral agreements with countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
These agreements between three or more countries are the most difficult to negotiate. The larger the number of participants, the more difficult the negotiations. They are, by nature, more complex than bilateral agreements, insofar as each country has its own needs and requirements. On the other hand, some local industries benefit. They are finding new markets for their duty-free products. These industries are growing and employing more labour. These compromises are the subject of endless debate among economists. It is a list of free trade agreements between two parties in which each party could be a country (or another customs territory), a trade bloc or an informal group of countries. In total, the United States currently has 14 trade agreements with 20 different countries. EFTA  has bilateral agreements with the following countries – including dependent territories – and blocs: a free trade agreement is an agreement between two or more countries in which countries agree on certain obligations that affect trade in goods and services, as well as the protection of investors and intellectual property rights.
